Brian Ingpen’s book explores South Africa's supertugs

Maritime historian Brian Ingpen and supertug sailor David Murray launched South Africa Supertugs: from supertugs to powerful salvage tugs, at the Royal Cape Yacht Club, on Tuesday, September 23.

The twelfth coffee table book by Tokai ‘salty dog’ Mr Ingpen is a commemorative one that recalls his experiences of legendary supertugs John Ross and Wolraad Woltemade. With many historical images, first-hand accounts, and vivid anecdotes from seasoned maritime experts, the book brings to life the raw power, heroic rescues, and rich legacy of these ocean workhorses.

Thirty percent of the proceeds from the sale of books will be donated to support the Lawhill Maritime Centre, which provides Grade 10 to 12 pupils, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, with specialised maritime studies.
