Road marking work is underway along the Atlantic Seaboard and in parts of the Cape Town CBD, with improvements expected to continue until the end of June.
The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate has begun a phased project to repaint and refresh road markings in key areas.
Along the Atlantic Seaboard, work will take place in Green Point, Sea Point, Fresnaye, Clifton, Bantry Bay, and Camps Bay.
In the CBD, the project includes the city centre, District Six, as well as surrounding areas such as Gardens, Tamboerskloof, Oranjezicht, Vredehoek, and Signal Hill.
The work is being carried out during off-peak hours to minimise disruption, said a statement from the City.
Night work is scheduled between 7pm and 4:30am from Monday to Thursday, while daytime work will take place between 9am and 3:30pm from Monday to Saturday.
According to the City, the project forms part of ongoing road maintenance efforts aimed at improving visibility and safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
Mayco member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, said most of the work had been planned outside of peak traffic periods to reduce congestion.
“We aim to complete all the road marking by the end of June and thank road users for their patience. Where possible, commuters are encouraged to use alternative routes during this period,” he said.
Motorists are urged to drive cautiously in affected areas, adhere to temporary signage and remain alert to roadwork teams. Some noise can be expected, particularly during night work.
