Things on Wheels Charity is set to host its 26th annual wheelwalk this Saturday, April 4, at the scenic Sea Point Promenade.
The event promises a day of fun and empowerment for people in wheelchairs across the peninsula.
Kamile Abbas, the charity's founder and coordinator, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, highlighting its importance for the wheelchair community.
"I just want to thank the community, businesses, and families who always support Things on Wheels Charity; without their support, we would not achieve our goals," he said.
He added that able-bodied people could anticipate a long walk alongside the wheelwalk next year.
Mr Abbas, speaking to the Atlantic Sun on Thursday, April 2, confirmed that all wheelchair-bound guests will receive complimentary transport starting from 5am, thanks to HG Travelling Services, which has generously volunteered its vehicles and drivers as part of their social responsibility.
They will be served breakfast and receive goodie bags.
This year, Mr Abbas looks forward to hosting up to 200 people in wheelchairs from 15 different areas across the peninsula.
"My goal is to host 500 people, which will be achieved soon, but we are working towards it steadily to increase our logistic capacity," he stated.
Beyond the wheel walk, the non-profit organisation is deeply committed to empowering and supporting people with disabilities and vulnerable communities.
The charity supplies 21 soup kitchens across the Mother City.
This initiative feeds an estimated 55 000 people annually, reaching 490 schools a year, and provides 600 pupils with meals daily, along with distributing 3 000 loaves of bread a month.
"I just want to make a difference in the lives of people in wheelchairs and see the smiles on their faces," said Mr Abbas.
