The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has announced planned maintenance work for the coming week, which will result in temporary water supply disruptions across several City Bowl suburbs.
Residents are urged to prepare for the outages by storing sufficient water in advance.
The critical maintenance is being undertaken to improve the water supply infrastructure for the benefit of all customers.
A major water shutoff is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, from 8am to 8pm in parts of Oranjezicht. This is part of an ongoing pipeline replacement project in the area, specifically in Upper Orange Street, Belmont Avenue, Montrose Avenue, and Jagersfontein Avenue.
"This precaution does not guarantee all residents will have water disruption, but it aims to ensure they can prepare if it does occur," read the statement.
The affected streets for this 12-hour shutoff include: Upper Orange Street, Alexandre Avenue, Belvedere Avenue, Belmont Avenue, Montrose Avenue, Rose Mount Avenue, Sir George Grey Street, Wynyard Street, Sophia Street, Breda Street, Forest Road, and Mill Street.
Residents in these streets must store water in clean, sealed containers and ensure all taps are closed to prevent water loss or damage when the supply is restored.
Further disruptions are planned for network assessments, which involve zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments: on Tuesday, April 14, from 9am until 5pm - Bo-Kaap (Schotsche Kloof), Gardens, University Estate, Walmer Estate, and Zonnebloem (District Six); Wednesday, April 15, from 9am until 5pm, in Gardens, Oranjezicht, and Tamboerskloof; Thursday, April 16, from 9am until 5pm in Devil's Peak Estate, Oranjezicht, and Vredehoek.
The City advises all residents in these areas to store water for domestic use during the scheduled hours.
The directorate confirmed it has taken all necessary measures to minimise the impact of the shutdown.
