Lion’s Head Jeep Track closure for essential maintenance: What you need to know

Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) has announced the temporary closure of the popular Lion’s Head Jeep Track to allow for essential maintenance and safety improvements.

The closure will commence on Monday, April 20, and is currently projected to last until Saturday, June 20.

South African National Parks (SANParks) head of communications and spokesman JP Louw said the exact duration is dependent on the completion of the project and prevailing weather conditions.

Hikers and visitors are advised that the Jeep Track will be inaccessible during this time.

However, access to the Lion’s Head Summit will remain possible via several alternative, designated routes - the Kramat trail located on Signal Hill Road; the Upper Rhine Road Trail; and the trail starting from Kloof Road.

The Lion’s Head parking area will remain open for those utilizing the Kramat trail.

Mr Louw said that the maintenance project is vital for "improving trail safety and enhancing the overall visitor experience."

The public is strongly urged to respect the closure and adhere strictly to all posted signage and safety instructions for their own protection and the protection of the environment.
