Cape Town’s streets will transform into a race route when the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Cape Town 10K takes place this Sunday, May 10.
The race starts at Marine Drive, Milnerton, and finishes in the CBD, bringing thousands of runners through some of the city’s busiest roads.
As with previous editions, several major routes into the city centre will be closed for the event, with traffic disruptions expected in the morning.
According to the organisers, event venues at Woodbridge Island (race start) and the Grand Parade (race finish) will be operational from 06h00, with controlled activations taking place along the route.
Absa states that while amplified sound will form part of the event experience, every effort will be made to keep noise levels within acceptable limits.
Sound checks are scheduled for Saturday, May 9, between 2pm and 6pm, and will be monitored by the event organiser and appointed safety officers.
Traffic flow will be actively managed by traffic officers and event marshals throughout the duration of the event.
Temporary road closures will be implemented on a rolling basis along the route, with access maintained for residents wherever possible. Motorists are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly, allow for additional time, and make use of alternative routes where necessary.
These key routes will be affected from Friday, May 8, to Sunday, May 10.
- Darling, Lower Long and Long Street will have parking bay closures in some sections from 8pm on Friday until 4pm on Sunday.
- On Saturday, May 9, Darling and Castle Streets are either fully closed or partially closed (left lane in the direction of Strand St) from 10am on Saturday until 5pm on Sunday.
- On race day, Heerengracht, Lower Long, Lower Loop and Long St are affected from 2am onwards until 6am.
- The N1 outbound is closed from 08:45 am until 11:45; other streets affected are Hans Strijdom Ave, FW de Klerk Blvd outbound, Lower Church, Christiaan Barnard, Walter Sisulu Ave, Wale St and Adderley St.
