Diabetes South Africa (DSA) is calling on the public to support its upcoming fundraiser, Cake for a Cause, taking place at St James Church, Kenilworth, on Saturday, May 9 at 3pm.
This community-focused event aims to raise awareness about diabetes while promoting healthy living. Attendees are encouraged to bring a cake to share, with a fun competition where guests can vote for their favourite cake. All participants must provide ingredient and allergen information. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible.
According to DSA national manager Margot McCumisky, the cake theme reflects a trending topic while opening important conversations about managing diabetes through balanced lifestyles.
“We would like to raise funds for our annual Type 1 children's camp and to produce literature to hand out at our screening events and wellness days,” she said.
In addition to enjoying sweet treats and warm beverages, attendees can access free blood sugar and blood pressure testing during the event. There will also be a small talk on mindful eating because caring for health is at the heart of what DSA does.
The non-profit organisation, with more than 56 years of service, operates from its head office in Cape Town’s City Bowl and has branches in cities including Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg, Durban, and Gqeberha.
While many attendees will be individuals living with diabetes and their families, the event is open to anyone interested in learning more about diabetes and healthy living.
