Animal lovers in Cape Town will have the chance to meet playful puppies looking for new homes when Tears Animal Rescue hosts an Adoption Day at Absolute Pets in Cape Quarter this weekend.
The event takes place on Saturday, May 9, from 10am to 2pm at the Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village, where visitors can meet dogs available for adoption and speak to the Tears team about the process.
The organisation says the event is aimed at helping animals find safe, loving homes, while also giving potential adopters the chance to meet pets in a relaxed setting.
Prospective owners are encouraged to apply for pre-approval online ahead of the event to help speed up the adoption process.
According to Dylan Malander, Marketing Lead at Tears Animal Rescue, the organisation follows a structured process to ensure each animal is matched with the right home.
“The adoption process involves submitting an online application, passing a home check, and visiting our facility in the Western Cape to meet potential pets,” he said.
Applications are reviewed within four to five working days, after which applicants may be contacted for further information if needed.
A home check is then carried out, either virtually via WhatsApp or in person, to confirm that the home environment is suitable.
Once approved, applicants are invited to meet the animals at the Tears kennels or cattery in Sun Valley, Cape Town.
“Once approved and after paying the adoption fee, you can finalise the contract and take your new companion home,” Mr Malander said.
He said adoption fees, around R950 for dogs, include vaccinations, deworming, defleaing, sterilisation and a microchip.
Adoptions are limited to the Western Cape, and applicants must be at least 18 years old. Renters must also provide proof of landlord permission.
