There is something distinctive about a Cape Town winter afternoon in late June. The harbour is bathed in golden light, the wind softens, and at Cape Grace, a Fairmont Managed Hotel, a quiet anticipation settles in as the season takes hold.
At its flagship restaurant, Heirloom, the hotel is once again bringing Wimbledon to the Waterfront with the return of A Game of Grace, a seasonal activation inspired by the traditions of the Championships in London.
Originally introduced last year, the experience returns in an expanded format for 2026, running Thursday to Sunday from June 18 through to the tournament finals on July 12.
Heirloom is transformed for the occasion in shades of green and white, with soft seasonal accents, echoing the atmosphere of centre court. Guests can enjoy live screenings of key matches paired with a Wimbledon-inspired afternoon tea service.
The menu pays homage to classic English traditions, featuring finger sandwiches, coronation chicken, and freshly baked scones served with Chantilly cream, strawberry jam, and lemon curd.
Playful desserts include a chocolate tennis racket, Battenberg cake, and the return of the signature edible tennis ball, reimagined as a vanilla-and-peach mousse tartlet.
Each guest is welcomed with a Cape Grace No 96 gin and the hotel’s exclusive tea blend infused with spice, herbs, and Cederberg rooibos. A dedicated gin and Pimm’s trolley adds a ceremonial touch to the experience.
“The rituals of this time of year are some of my favourites,” says Amanda Strydom, food and beverage director at Cape Grace.
“Dressing up, gathering, taking a long afternoon over a single match. We have tried to honour that, with all the small touches that make the season what it is.”
Guests are encouraged to embrace the Wimbledon spirit through classic whites or tennis-inspired attire.
