Cape Town singers have a chance to take their talents to an international stage when auditions for Hong Kong Disneyland's acclaimed Festival of the Lion King return to South Africa on Tuesday, July 7.
The auditions, which will take place at The Waterfront Theatre School in Cape Town, form part of Hong Kong Disneyland's long-running commitment to creating opportunities for African performers to participate in its global productions and festival events.
The entertainment giant has travelled to South Africa for several years to recruit local talent and will once again search for vocalists to fill four lead roles in the popular live production: Simba, Nala, Scar, and The Storyteller.
This year's auditions will also visit Johannesburg, Durban, and, for the first time, East London, broadening access for aspiring performers across the country.
Western Cape vocalists hoping to audition must pre-register online before attending. Successful applicants will receive additional audition information via email. Auditions will begin at 9.30am on July 7, with callbacks for selected performers scheduled for later the same day.
How to audition
The Hong Kong Disneyland team will be auditioning for four lead vocalist roles in Festival of the Lion King:
- Simba
- Nala
- Scar
- The Storyteller

Those chosen for the production will receive an initial six-month contract beginning in October 2026, with the opportunity to re-audition should they wish to extend their time with the show.
Festival of the Lion King is one of Hong Kong Disneyland's signature attractions, bringing the beloved Disney story to life through live music, colourful costumes, puppetry, and performances of iconic songs including Circle of Life, Hakuna Matata, Can You Feel the Love Tonight?, and Be Prepared.
The 30-minute production follows Simba's journey from cub to king and features a cast of vocalists, dancers, and performers in a theatre-in-the-round setting.
