Cape Town’s CBD will come alive this Sunday, June 21, as Go Skateboarding Day Cape Town 2026 takes over the city centre, bringing together skateboarders, families, residents, tourists and local organisations for a free celebration of sport, culture and community in the heart of the city.
Presented by Clued Skateboarding in partnership with Grand Skate Tour, Red Bull and Mission for Inner City Cape Town, the event will begin at midday with Thibault Square serving as the registration and meeting point.
From there, participants will skate through the CBD to Company’s Garden, where the main programme of skateboarding, youth development and community activations will take place.
According to the Mission for Inner City Cape Town, the event is designed to position skateboarding as more than a sport, highlighting its role in youth engagement, creative expression and positive use of public urban spaces.
Organisers say it aims to strengthen connections between skaters, businesses and the wider Cape Town community.
Crispine Githinji Nderitu of Clued Skateboarding said Go Skateboarding Day is about bringing people together and showing the positive role skateboarding can play in the city. “Cape Town has an incredible skateboarding culture, and this event allows us to celebrate that with families, visitors and the broader community.”
Visitors can expect skateboarding demonstrations, open skate sessions, beginner lessons, competitions, cash-for-tricks challenges, live music, youth entertainment, food vendors, giveaways, and sponsor activations, creating a festival-style atmosphere suitable for all ages.
Families celebrating Father’s Day can also use the event as a relaxed outing, with a strong focus on non-alcoholic beverages, healthy lifestyle brands and inclusive participation.
A key feature of the day is the Skate Don’t Fade initiative, created in memory of Cape Town skateboarder Sebastian Dos Santos. Organisers said the initiative raises awareness around addiction and mental wellbeing while encouraging young people to pursue positive pathways through sport and community.
They said the event also aims to challenge outdated perceptions of skateboarding, positioning it as a recognised sport and cultural movement that contributes to urban life in Cape Town.
