Introducing EvFloat 1: A new era of luxury waterfront living in Cape Town

A new chapter in luxury waterfront living has arrived in Cape Town with the recently launched EvFloat 1 at the V&A Marina, introducing a South African-designed floating residence concept that blends marina living, luxury accommodation, and investment opportunities. 

Developed by KND Naval Design, EvFloat 1 is the first in a planned series of floating residences that aim to introduce a new approach to marina living. 

Designed and manufactured in South Africa, the unit combines naval architecture with luxury residential design, creating a premium accommodation option for marinas, waterfront developments, resorts, and private estates. 

According to the developers, the concept was created to place guests at water level, surrounded by reflections, boats, evening light, marina bustle, and seclusion, without requiring them to own a yacht or book a standard hotel room. 

KND Naval Design states that positioning is also reflected in the EvFloat proposal, where the product is described as “a luxury marina residence on the water” and specifically not a conventional houseboat, not a yacht charter and not a hotel.

“The original idea behind EvFloat was clear: create the feeling of a luxury apartment at the waterline, without building on land.

“KND Naval Design developed the platform from the beginning as a marine asset. That means the product had to be beautiful but also practical. It had to satisfy stability, structure, access, mooring, maintenance, guest movement, services, safety, and insurance requirements.” 

The company said it plans to roll out additional EvFloat units across South Africa before expanding into selected locations elsewhere on the continent. To support different buyers and investors, ownership options will include full ownership, fractional title ownership, and managed rental and lifestyle investment opportunities. 

“This is more than a houseboat. EvFloat is a new lifestyle concept designed around marina living, comfort, mobility, and waterfront investment. A fully designed and fabricated South African product, built to create a premium floating residence experience in world-class marina locations,” they said.
