If you're looking for a reason to venture out this winter, Time Out Market Cape Town has packed its July calendar with live sport, food experiences, wine tastings, cocktail masterclasses and even a Mandela Day initiative that lets visitors spend 67 minutes walking rescue dogs.
Here's what's on:
Watch the FIFA World Cup live
Football fans can catch live screenings of FIFA World Cup matches until July 19 on big screens inside the market. Entry is free, although seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Spend Mandela Day walking rescue dogs
On Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, visitors can volunteer 67 minutes of their time by walking rescue dogs through the V&A Waterfront in partnership with Oscar's Arc Woof Project. Participation is free, but spaces are limited by the number of dogs available.
Learn to make gin cocktails
Mixologist AJ Durow will host a gin masterclass on July 23, covering the history of gin, botanicals and cocktail-making techniques. Tickets start from R280.
Taste wines from around the Cape
The Winter Wine Series returns on July 25, bringing together wineries, food vendors, and live music. Tickets cost R250 and include a tasting glass and tasting tokens.
See who can eat the most burgers
Competitive eaters will battle it out in the Zuney Burgers Burger Eating Championship on July 27. Spectators can watch for free, while entrants must register through the Time Out Market app.
On Thursday, July 30, chefs will prepare tuna-inspired dishes in a culinary competition where guests can sample food and watch a whole tuna being carved. Tickets cost R900.
Most ticketed events require booking, while free events are subject to capacity.
