Thousands of runners will take to the streets of the Cape Town CBD this Women's Day, with temporary road closures and traffic restrictions expected as the Totalsports Women's Race returns.
Motorists heading into or through the city centre on Sunday, August 9, are encouraged to plan, allow extra travel time and use alternative routes where possible as around 10,000 participants gather for one of the city's biggest Women's Month sporting events.
The annual race starts and finishes at the Grand Parade, with temporary road closures affecting parts of the Cape Town CBD and surrounding areas throughout the morning.
According to organisers, the event is expected to attract not only runners but also thousands of supporters, creating a lively atmosphere with entertainment and activations along the route.
"We're looking forward to welcoming ten thousand runners, together with their family and friends, to the Grand Parade for another memorable Totalsports Women's Race Cape Town," said Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports.
He added that organisers have worked to minimise disruption for residents, businesses and retailers while ensuring a safe event, thanking the community for its patience and continued support.
If you're planning to be in the CBD on Sunday morning, it's worth checking your route before you leave and allowing extra time for your journey.
