Cape Town’s annual Vintage with Love Big Sale is getting an upgrade this August, with the launch of The Big Week, bringing sustainable fashion, fundraising and local design together across two events.

The initiative, hosted by South African non-profit Vintage with Love, will feature The Big Show on Thursday, August 20, followed by the organisation’s long-running Big Sale from Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30 at the Cape Town Cruise Terminal.

Showcasing local brands, designers and sustainability

The Big Show, created in partnership with Bridget Pickering of Ruff Tung/Therapy Boutique, will showcase local brands, designers and changemakers working to advance sustainability in the South African fashion industry. It will take place at Beluga, above the terminal.

The Big Sale will once again turn donated pre-loved clothing into fundraising for literacy and education initiatives across South Africa, while giving thousands of garments a second life.

Founded more than a decade ago by Leigh Ord and Jacquie Myburgh, Vintage with Love has raised millions of rand for education and literacy-focused charities through donated fashion and fundraising events.

What began as a community-driven initiative has grown into a movement that has raised millions of rand for literacy- and education-focused charities across South Africa while championing a more conscious approach to fashion consumption.

Today, that mission remains as relevant as ever.

Every year, thousands of donated garments find new homes, giving clothing a second life while generating critical funding for educational initiatives that create lasting change in communities across the country.

Making the Big Sale bigger

"This year, we wanted to take something big that we've been doing for years and make it even bigger," says Taylea du Toit, Senior Marketing Manager at Vintage with Love.

"We're a small team with big dreams, working towards an even bigger impact. Every day we see how small acts can create a BIG impact. How one donated dress, one purchased shirt or one person choosing to get involved can create a ripple effect far greater than they realise. That's the thinking behind The Big Week” says du Toit.

The Big Week’s events are intended to highlight both environmental and social sustainability, with clothing donations and purchases contributing to the organisation’s fundraising efforts.

The Big Show: Thursday, August, 20 at 6pm.

The Big Sale: Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30.
