Pretty Serious, a group exhibition celebrating Women's month, is on view at ORMS School of Photography from this August.
Presented by ORMS School of Photography and Art School Africa, the exhibition explores femininity through play, beauty, tenderness, excess, emotion and joy. The unapologetic reclamation of being "just a girl" is itself a delicate art of resistance, a light feminine touch applied to the long, heavy discourse on womanhood.
It brings together Cape Town-based artists working across painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking, collage and fibre art.
The exhibition is the second annual Women's Month collaboration between ORMS and Art School Africa, following Many Selves in 2025.
Curated and produced by Buchanan & Co., Pretty Serious features work by Alexia Smit, Alka Jiven, Celeste Jacobs, Edinah Chagwedera, Inge Prins, Kauthar Kamish, Khanyisa Buthelezi, Kristen McClarty, Zarah Cassim, Nina Turok Shapiro, Lauren Hendricks, Martha Kubule, Myra Brown, Sanell Aggenbach, Antonia Steyn, Reem Aljeally, Sera Holland, Sharday Swanepoel, Sundus Saad and Zimkhitha Mabonga.
Pretty Serious is currently running at ORMS School of Photography in Gardens and is open to the public until August 29.
