Whale season is underway along the Western Cape coast, with Southern right whales returning to the waters around Cape Town and beyond.
You don't need to travel far to spot them, with several coastal viewpoints offering the chance to see these marine giants from land, while boat trips provide a closer look.
Here are some of the best places to look for them around Cape Town.
Sea Point Promenade
The Sea Point Promenade offers an easy, city-based option for whale watching. Find a spot along the coastline between Mouille Point and Bantry Bay and scan the Atlantic for whales, particularly between August and October.
Camps Bay
The coastline along Victoria Road offers several elevated viewpoints overlooking the Atlantic. Stop along the route between Camps Bay and Llandudno and keep an eye on the water this whale season.
Boyes Drive, Muizenberg and Kalk Bay
Boyes Drive provides elevated views across False Bay and is one of the best spots for land-based whale watching on the Cape Peninsula. The route can be combined with a visit to Muizenberg, St James or Kalk Bay.
