Cape Town Central police station’s family violence and sexual offences unit arrested a taxi driver for rape on Thursday August 14.
The detective followed up on information that the perpetrator was a taxi driver, and followed leads to the Station Deck, said Cape Town Central police spokesperson, Captain Ezra October.Â
The officer then obtained video footage, which helped him trace the taxi’s owner, who identified the driver.Â
Over the weekend, Cape Town Central police arrested three people for possession of drugs during operations. Two people were also arrested for shoplifting.Â
A man was arrested for drug dealing in Riebeeck Street on Wednesday August 12.Â
Captain October said the man was found with 75 packets of tik, one plastic packet containing presumed heroine and another bag of presumed cocaine, with the estimated street value of 
R10 000. Police also confiscated R820 cash.Â
In another incident, three men were arrested for possession of possible car and housebreaking implements, as well as possession of a dangerous weapon on their way into the CBD on Wednesday August 5. The men were pulled over while entering the city centre. Police found bolt cutters, an iron saw, pliers and shears in the bakkie. Captain October said they could not give a reasonable explanation as to where they were going, and one of the men attempted to evade arrest by trying to run. All three suspects were arrested and charged. Â
On Tuesday August 11, at the corner Buitengracht Street and Helen Suzman Drive, a 19-year-old man was arrested after the white Avanza he was driving was found to have been hijacked in Mfuleni on Saturday August 8.Â
On the same day, a man was arrested for stealing a cleaning machine in Waterkant Street. Captain October said the owner of the machine chased the suspect, apprehended him and handed him over to the police.Â
In another incident, a man was arrested in Strand Street for grabbing a woman’s cellphone while she was on a call. He was arrested and charged with robbery.
