Wildlife talk at Cape Gallery

Staff Reporter|Published 7 months ago

Morning prowl by Makiwa Mutomba

A Vital Legacy – phase II of The Cape Gallery’s annual Wildlife exhibition will show at the gallery in Church Street until Thursday October 31.

The group exhibition aims to create an understanding of the bio-web that we are all a part of; the complexity and diversity of creature and plant life that sustains us and the existential threat if we don’t care for it.

Strong Man by Philip Mbusi

On First Thursday October 3, there will be a preview of the exhibition, and a talk by visual artist Jocelin Kagan, who will speak of her recent visit to Mana Pools in Zimbabwe, the impact of the drought in Zimbabwe and the plight of the animals.

Ms Kagan has registered an organisation, called the Painted Dog Project and has published a book called Africa’s Wild Dog Survival Fund – a survival story.

She will be raising funds for the wild dogs through the sale of her book.

All profits and royalties will go to Africa’s Wild Dog Survival Fund.

For the occasion, The Cape Gallery will showcase paintings of African Wild dogs by South African artists including Makiwa Mutomba, Karin Kruger, Barry Jackson, Timothy Zantsi, within the context of an eclectic wildlife exhibition.

To RSVP to the event, or for more information, email web@capegallery.co.za
