A Lentegeur rapper will be performing at a free concert called Greater than Music.
Shaundeon ‘King Smasher’ Afrika and his team will be at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre on Sunday January 29, from 3pm.
“In 2021, I hosted a show in Lentegeur where I decided to perform in the community I grew up in. We pulled out all the stops. This year, we want the audience to experience a full production and take them on a journey. I am blessed with the opportunity to have my show at the Waterfront,” he said.
The amphitheatre has hosted many well-known local and international artists and the rapper told the Plainsman that performing there is a dream come true.
“I used to imagine myself on the stage and people enjoying the show. Come January 29, my childhood dream will be a reality,” the 28-year-old said.
King Smasher, who got his stage name from his favourite video game, said he always wanted to be a rapper.
“I’ve loved music since birth and when I turned eight I started writing little rap pieces in a notebook. When I was nine or 10, my friends and I decided my stage name should be King Smasher. My mom said when I was four years of age, I already told people that I would be a rapper.”
The artist's manager, Alex Cupido from BruinChild Media, said: “It is amazing that this young man from Mitchell’s Plain gets to perform on a stage that he dreamt about as a child. We hope this platform will open doors for him in the music industry.”
King Smasher will be joined by a live band, vocalists Mishkah Anne Rank, Richard G Haynes and special guests including The Khayelitsha Youth Choir and singer Talitha Luiters.
The show is suitable for the entire family and the crew said the crowd should prepare for a musical treat of note.
