Experience Rachmaninov with Leo de María at Cape Town's Autumn Symphonies

Tickets are now on sale for the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s Autumn Symphonies concert series, taking place every Thursday in April at Cape Town City Hall

The season opens on Thursday, April 2, with Spanish pianist Leo de María, winner of the UNISA International Piano Competition, performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2.

The programme across the month features a range of soloists and instruments, including piano, viola, violin, and cello concertos, as well as major orchestral works by composers such as Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Ravel, and Dvořák.

The AfriArts Choir and VOX Cape Town will join forces for Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang.

Conductor Laureate Bernhard Gueller will lead the opening concert, followed by Nicholas Chalmers on April 9 and  April 16, while Arjan Tien closes the season on April 23 and April 30 in his first appearances as principal guest conductor.

Curtain-raiser performances by the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble and Youth Orchestra will take place on April 16 and April 30.
