More than 50 College of Magic students and graduates will take to the stage in Makin’ Magic, a family-friendly production set to run at Artscape Theatre on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7.
Set in the laboratory of a quirky professor, played by local actor Matthew Baldwin, the story follows a series of magical mishaps after a mysterious monster appears, throwing experiments into chaos.
Audience members are invited to take part as the performers attempt to restore order.
Creative Director Chad Findlay said the production aims to inspire young people to explore creativity. “Makin’ Magic is about showing that extraordinary things can come from simple ideas,” he said.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said the City’s support for the production is part of ongoing efforts to provide opportunities for youth development through the arts.
The show combines close-up magic, large-scale illusions, and interactive elements, with performers using everyday and recycled objects to create theatrical effects.
Makin’ Magic will run at 3pm and 7pm on Saturday, and at noon and 3.30pm on Sunday.
The production runs for one hour and 35 minutes, with a 30-minute interval.
Tickets cost between R165 and R180 and are available via Webtickets.
