The Cape Town Kota Festival takes place at The Ostrich at Ostrich Ranch in Philadelphia on Saturday, September 5.

The festival celebrates the South African kota while bringing together local kota businesses, known as “Kotapreneurs”, to showcase their food, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.

Kota, derived from the word "quarter", is a a generously filled quarter loaf of bread packed with ingredients such as chips, meat, cheese, polony and sauces.

Festivalgoers can also stand a chance to win prizes through giveaways leading up to the event and on the day.

Beyond the food and entertainment, the festival aims to support the growth of the kota economy through business workshops, mentorship and opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

Organisers say the long-term goal is to help position the kota as a South African street-food product with global appeal.

Tickets are available through the Kota Festival website
