■ Feminine Divine Oriental Dance Studio will host its ninth World Belly Dance Day at Gardens Commercial High School on Saturday May 13, from 10am to 5pm. The annual event will include performances by dance studios from all over South Africa, a belly dance-themed fashion show, food and trinket stalls at the market, and a group drum solo session and demonstration. World Belly Dance Day was first conceptualised by Lydia Tzigane: “Our mission is to unite the initiative of many dancers around the world to celebrate the wonderful art of belly dance as a holiday on the second Saturday in May every year. We got inspired by the idea of holding an event that would serve as a reminder that belly dance is an artform, a cultural event, a sport, and a social and family entertainment. Belly Dance Day is our way of reaching out and putting our beloved dance form in a nice and different light, by holding an event that would be ‘family-rated’ with all profit going to charity,” he said. All profits raised on the day will be donated to Rape Crisis with hopes to better 2016’s R20 000 raised for the organisation. Tickets cost R80 for spectators and R40 for children under 12 years old and are available at the door. For more information, contact Tenille Lindeque at rougerevue@gmail.com
