A new aviation destination is set to open in the Western Cape this September, with Atlantic Aerodrome promising a premium hub for aircraft owners, pilots and aviation enthusiasts just 40 minutes from Cape Town.
According to Atlantic Aerodrome, the purpose-built facility in the Swartland has been designed to meet growing demand for modern general aviation infrastructure while creating a lifestyle destination for both the aviation community and visiting families.
Clubhouse, restaurants and flight training planned for new aerodrome
The development will feature secure hangarage, flight training, aircraft support services and a 2,100m² two-level clubhouse overlooking the runway and surrounding mountains.
Atlantic Aerodrome said the clubhouse will include restaurants, bars, VIP lounges, event spaces, pilot facilities and a children's play park. The restaurant and viewing deck will also be open to the public, offering visitors the chance to enjoy a meal while watching aircraft take off and land.
The development will also house an on-site Flight Training Organisation offering private, commercial and instrument pilot training in what the company describes as a scenic, community-focused environment.
For aircraft owners, Atlantic Aerodrome said it will provide secure enclosed hangars with 24/7 biometric security and direct airside access, alongside aircraft cleaning, ground handling, maintenance support and round-the-clock refuelling with Mogas, Avgas 100LL and Jet A-1.
Premium aerodrome to open 40 minutes from Cape Town
The airfield will feature a 1,241m grooved asphalt runway with LED lighting for 24-hour operations, with provision to extend it to 1,525m during a future phase of the project. A GNSS instrument approach is also planned.
"Owning an aircraft should be enjoyable from the moment you arrive at the airfield," said Shane Harrison, founder of Atlantic Aerodrome.
"Pilots often spend their time worrying about access, security, congestion or simply finding hangar space. We wanted to create a place where people actually look forward to spending the day, whether they're flying, having breakfast with family, or simply enjoying being part of the aviation community."
Atlantic Aerodrome is scheduled to launch in September 2026 with hangarage, FBO services, guest accommodation and its clubhouse. The company said priority hangar space and membership opportunities are currently available for interested aircraft owners, operators and aviation enthusiasts.
