A group of activists took a waddle through the Waterfront on Saturday October 8 to create awareness of the dwindling African penguin population.

According to a statement by the Two Oceans Aquarium, who hosted the walk, fewer than 10 400 breeding pairs remain in the wild, and at their current rate of decline, they will be functionally extinct within 20 years.

The walk took place on International African Penguin Awareness Day, marked annually on the second Saturday of October every year.
