Hundreds of people in need could choose clothing items for free at The Street Store pop-up, in collaboration with clothing brand Old Khaki, which took place at the Haven Night Shelter in Green Point on Saturday April 12.
Now in its 11th year, The Street Store, founded by marketing agency The Up&Up Group (formerly M&C Saatchi Group South Africa) was established in 2014 to clothe street people and those in need.
The initiative sets up pop-up stores of donated clothing shops on street corners around the world. To date, the stores have clothed over a million people across the globe.
Chairman and co-founder of The Up&Up Group, Mike Abel, said the Cape Town street store’s success was due to the significant amount of public pre-loved clothing donations, collected within the past months at selected Old Khaki stores in the Western Cape, where drop-off points were made available.
