Zubayr Charles' 'This Bra’s A Psycho': A thrilling theatre experience in Cape Town

Writer and director Zubayr Charles, from Bo-kaap is set to have audiences in suspense when they view his play, This Bra’s A Psycho, at the Artscape Theatre Centre’s Arena from Tuesday, July 29 until Saturday, August 2, at 3pm or 7pm. 

Mr Charles is a multi-disciplinary writer and UCT Master's in Creative Writing graduate.

His plays - Mercy; The Battered Housewives’ Club; This Bra’s A Psycho; and Please, don’t call me Moffie - have been showcased at various theatres and festivals around Cape Town.

Mr Charles has achieved success with his essays published on LitNet and The Cape Creative Collective.

He hopes to have his anthology The Sad Boy’s starter pack and other poems, and his novel Haram published.

Mr Charles continues to tell stories and break into South Africa’s theatre industry.

The play This Bra’s A Psycho also forms part of the 2025 Artscape Women’s Humanity Festival, themed Peace in Action - Working together. 

This psychological crime thriller follows a character waking up in an unknown warehouse, who must face the brutal aftermath of sexual assault. 

In his search for love and healing through dating apps, things take a dark turn, ending in a chilling killing spree. 

But someone is watching and justice is coming. It stars James Stoffberg and Anzio September.

The play has an age restriction of 16.
