Rustenburg Girls’ Junior School (RGJS) is calling on student teachers to join its Student Teacher Conference on Saturday, August 16.

The event director and RGJS teacher, Melanie Dudley said this student teacher conference is dedicated to student teachers, teaching interns, and aspiring educators from across the province.

“This conference will serve as a platform to inspire, equip, and engage the next generation of teachers as they prepare to enter South Africa’s education system with passion and purpose,” she said.

The theme of the conference is called 'From Passion to Profession: The Journey Begins' and will also be attended by representatives of the National Professional Teachers' Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA), South African Council for Educators(SACE), and provincial education representatives.

Student teachers, Zusakhe Fayi and Andile Simanga, are eager to participate in this conference at the Rondebosch-based girls' school.

Ms Fayi from Khayelitsha is currently teaching coding at Forres Preparatory School in Rondebosch, as well as teaching after-school mathematics at Floreat Primary School in Retreat.

“I am excited to interact with other student teachers at the conference. We have a young generation of teachers working through new technology. I am excited to see what the future holds for teaching in the country,” she said.

Mr Simanga from Khayelitsha currently works as a student teacher where he teaches Mathematics at Springfield Convent in Wynberg, Claremont High School, and Steenberg High School.

He said this conference will provide an opportunity to share ideas.

“One mind is great, though more minds are greater,” he said, adding that the conference will also give insight into what student teachers can expect from the education sector in the future.

The Student Teacher Conference will take place at Rustenburg Girls’ Junior School, 12 Main Road, Rondebosch, from 8am until 3pm.

Student teachers can still join the conference, where tickets are R150 per person and can be bought on Quicket. For more information, call the school at 021  689 1981.
