As Capetonians gear up for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon next weekend, the City of Cape Town has advised on road closures and plans to ensure a car-free route for runners.
The marathon on Sunday, October 19, will impact roads for several hours along the route linking the Atlantic Seaboard, Woodstock, Salt River, Observatory, the southern suburbs, and the central business district (CBD).
In the quest for the race to be an Abbott World Marathon Major, it requires a car-free route and several parking restrictions to be instituted along the race route in those neighbourhoods.
The restrictions will be in place from 8am on Friday, October 17, until 2pm on Sunday, October 19.
Some of the critical areas include Long Street, Green Point Main Road, Beach Road in Sea Point, Adderley Street, Darling Street, Victoria Road in Salt River, Albert Road in Woodstock, Campground Road in Rondebosch, and Orange Street in Gardens.
A comprehensive list of the no-parking areas and road closures for the marathon can be viewed on Parking restrictions and road closure notice.
