Former Athlone resident, Anne Anthony Isaacs, celebrated her 100th birthday on Monday December 15.

Born in Kimberley in 1925, Anne moved to Cape Town at age 21. Ms Isaacs said it was not up to her to live to a century.

"That is God's work. Not mine. I feel strong. I am happy with my family," she said.

Ms Isaacs resides at Rosebank House Retirement Community in Rosebank. She lived in different areas while raising her five children.

She lived with her eldest daughter, Valerie Moses, in Rocklands, Mitchell's Plain, for a while, shortly after her husband, Gert Isaacs, died in 2014, in Belhar.

Ms Isaacs survived World War II, during which she worked at an ammunition factory. She then worked at a candle factory, and she retired from working in housekeeping at a Sea Point hotel.

Ms Moses said her mother's life was a testament to hard work.

Ms Isaacs enjoys visiting her family across the globe, including her sister in London and her son in Holland. She also visits her brothers in Kimberly.

She is blessed with 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
