Camps Bay cyclist dies after collision with BMW

A cyclist was killed during a collision, in Camps Bay, and the alleged motorist of the vehicle was arrested.

Camps Bay police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a cyclist was killed on Victoria Road, near Maiden’s Cove, at about 7am on today, Tuesday, December 16.

The incident occurred when a motorist, driving a BMW, allegedly collided with the cyclist.

Western Cape police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the victim was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel.

The alleged motorist was arrested and is due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, December 17.

Victoria Road, between Strathmore and Argyle Roads, was closed for several hours while forensics teams and the South African Police Service (SAPS) attended to the scene.

The Camps Bay City Improvement District (CID) advised motorists to use alternative routes and anticipate delays.
