Cape Town residents are reminded of significant traffic disruptions today, Thursday, February 12, due to the State of the Nation Address (SONA).
In a move to ease congestion ahead of President Cyril Ramaphosa's address, the Gallows Hill licence testing centre, situated at the corner of Ebenezer and Somerset Road in Green Point, will close at 1pm.
The City of Cape Town's traffic services have also issued a reminder that extensive road closures are already in place, and will continue throughout the day and after the day's proceedings.
These closures are essential as members of parliament, dignitaries, and guests are expected to arrive at the City Hall hours before the president takes to the podium at 7pm.
Traffic services spokesman Kevin Jacobs advised the public to consult the official road closure schedules to plan their movements.
He said available parking spaces in some areas will also be affected.
Motorists are requested to limit non-essential travel in the central business district (CBD) and factor in additional travelling time if they must move in, out, or around the city centre, as traffic volumes will likely be elevated.
"Plan routes accordingly; keep intersections free between traffic light changes as blocking intersections causes further delays; and be patient and courteous," said Mr Jacobs.
A detailed road closure schedule can be accessed via the City's website.
