The historic Good Hope Centre is set to take centre stage in Cape Town’s upcoming municipal property auction on Thursday, February 26.

The iconic site, which spans 2.4843 hectares, will be offered alongside around 50 other properties, presenting a rare opportunity for private investors to shape the city’s future.

The City's mayoral committee member for economic growth, James Vos, said the auction aims to unlock economic potential while preserving heritage.

“By enabling redevelopment of the Good Hope Centre and its surrounding land, we can create a vibrant mixed-use precinct that benefits both the economy and local communities,” he said.

The broader portfolio includes residential, commercial, and industrial sites across the metro, totalling roughly 282,000 m².

Projects could range from urban infill housing to industrial expansion, offering entry points for a wide variety of developers.

All properties have been assessed and deemed surplus to municipal needs, with proceeds reinvested into public services to benefit residents, said Mr Vos.

“This is about transforming dormant land into opportunities, creating jobs, and fostering inclusive growth across Cape Town.”

The auction, managed by Claremart Group, will be conducted both online and in person, ensuring a transparent process.

Interested parties can register via the provider’s website or contact the City for further information.
