Cape Town Central police station is due to reopen this afternoon after it was closed on Sunday afternoon following reports that a police officer had tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19).
Station commander Brigadier Hansia Hansraj said the officer got his results while at work. Those who had been in contact with him have been tested and are in quarantine while waiting for their results, she added.
“The whole station has thus been sanitised and decontaminated. This process has a waiting period and is temporary,” she said
Brigadier Hansraj said SAPS’ services to the community had continued despite the closure, with the community service centre operating from the Cape Town Cluster office, managed by staff who had not been in contact with the officer who tested positive for the virus.
“Let’s pray for our station during these disastrous times. Our members and families are facing trying times but we will continue to execute our task at hand,” she said.
Cape Town Central police station spokesperson, Captain Ezra October said the station would open on Tuesday afternoon. “Our officers and vehicles will be operating, attending to all complaints, and services to the public are continuing. We expect the station to open at 2pm on Tuesday,” he said.
