The Cape Town Labour Centre is not open today after one of the employees of the Department of Employment and Labour tested positive for Covid-19.
The office will be deep cleaned.Â
The infected employee did not have any interaction with members of the public. Â
However, the employee interacted with coworkers, who were working at the labour centre, and was in contact with 30 other staff members.Â
The affected employees will now self-isolate for 14 days. Â
Thobile Lamati, Director-General of the Department, said: “What is critical is how we respond. With all the given circumstances, the department has responded in the way that is expected which is to follow the laid down protocols.”
The labour centre is the second one to close in the province due to Covid-19 and comes at a time when labour centres around the country prepare to open its doors. Â
The centre is now expected to open to the public on Wednesday June 10. Clients are encouraged to make use of online services.
