Cape Town Central police arrested 16 people for various crimes during operations in the city centre on Tuesday July 28, including a man in Plein Street who was caught by a Central City Improvement District guard for being in possession of a stolen 2m steel safety gate.
Eleven people were nabbed for being in the possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R1 800
Three people were arrested for shoplifting at various retail stores.Â
Officers also arrested a man on the corner of Constitution and Tennant streets for possession of a dangerous weapon after he was found with an okapi folding knife.Â
On Monday July 27, a man was arrested for possession of stolen property to the value of about R15 000.Â
Sector managers at Cape Town Central SAPS, sergeants Ashley Franks and Glen MacHelm responded to a tip-off regarding stolen bicycles, which led them to an apartment block in Hope Street.Â
A 25-year-old man was taken into custody after he was found in possession of two bicycles.Â
Cape Town Central spokesperson Captain Ezra October said the sergeants searched the man and found a packet of tik.Â
After further investigation by the police, they recovered another stolen bicycle which the man had sold to a shop.
Also on Monday July 27, Cape Town Central police arrested four people for possession of drugs during an operation at the transport hub in the city centre.Â
Captain October said one of the men arrested tried to bribe the officer with R500, and the man now faces a charge of bribery as well.Â
A man was also arrested for possession of house-breaking implements at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in District Six, with the help of security personnel at Main Campus.
