Police are investigating the murder of a 42-year-old woman who was attacked in District Six.
The woman was found in a disused road next to Christiaan Street near Zonneblom College, about 20 to 30 metres from the MyCiTi bus stop in Hanover Street, at about 11.40pm, on Sunday February 7.
Police were alerted after residents heard screaming.
According to Cape Town Central Police spokesman Captain Ezra October, the woman, who was from Mitchell’s Plain and had been staying at a lodge in the city, was stabbed multiple times.
“The victim died a few hours later on the morning of Monday February 8 in Somerset Hospital from multiple stab wounds,” he said.
The woman’s clothing is undergoing forensic testing. Police also retrieved a bloody scarf as the scene.
Police have surveillance footage of a suspect seen running past Upper Nile Street, past Holy Cross Primary School, at about the time of the stabbing.
