Johnnie Walker X RICH MNISI limited edition capsule collection

To celebrate its 200th anniversary, Johnnie Walker partnered with prolific designer Rich Mnisi once again—with a limited-edition Johnnie Walker X RICH MNISI capsule collection.

The new collection was launched at an exclusive preview at a distinctive Johnnie Walker Concept Store at Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton. Guests included comedian Elsa Majimbo, television personality Andile Ncube, visual artist Karabo Poppy, and photographer Trevor Stuurman.

Vibrant, bold, fun and classic—the collection includes basic wardrobe pieces from bomber jackets, to jumpsuits (our personal faves), t-shirts and an array of accessories.

The Johnnie Walker limited edition capsule collection is not the first fashion collaboration with the prolific designer. Rich Mnisi shares a bit more on the collection below.

Tell us more about this collection and collaboration?

The Johnnie Walker collaboration is not the first fashion collaboration with the brand. Winter of 2020 saw the release of our popular RICH MNISI Azania collection which formed part of Johnnie Walker’s #KeepWarmSA, followed by last year’s release of “The Man Who Walked Around The World” documentary which was anchored by bespoke sleepwear designs to commemorate the local launch of the docu-film. And in honour of the legendary whisky brand’s 200th anniversary we felt this was the perfect opportunity to celebrate this milestone through an iconic collaboration.

How do you want people to feel when wearing your clothes/designs?

Empowered and confident.

In what way do you think the pandemic has changed the way we dress?

Mid-pandemic people adopted a more relaxed aesthetic and now people have found a way to embrace their previous personal style around the mask.

What memorable responses have you had to your work?

PRIDE. Our brand represents pride for both the RM team and its supporters. I am Xitsonga and one of the most iconic Tsonga garments was made purely to show pride in our culture. As a brand founded in celebrating the woman in my family it’s only natural that it exudes so much pride. Our customers wear a local brand proud on their chest and this represents a new dawn for African fashion.

Your favourite pieces/items from this collaboration?

The Bomber and the jeans.
