Wildflower season is underway along the West Coast, with vibrant floral carpets returning to the landscapes around Cape Town and beyond.
Several nature reserves and coastal routes offer views of these blooms from land, while guided walks provide an even closer look.
Here are some of the best places to look for them along the West Coast.
West Coast National Park
The West Coast National Park offers an easy, day-trip option for flower watching. Find a spot within the Postberg section and scan the reserve for colorful displays, particularly between August and September.

R27 Coastal Route

Clanwilliam
For a dedicated flower-watching weekend trip, head to Clanwilliam. The town's Ramskop Wildflower Garden and surrounding mountain paths are among the country's best floral vantage spots. There are also seasonal displays at the town church.
Clanwilliam lies at the foot of the Cederberg Mountains, just over two hours from Cape Town. Rich in history, one of South Africa’s oldest towns is famous for rooibos tea, handmade veldskoens, and its annual spring Wild Flower Show. Nearby, the Cederberg Wilderness Area offers rock art trails, hiking, and dam watersports.
Wildflower season generally runs from August to October, with late August to mid-September offering some of the best opportunities for sightings.
