Cape Town is gearing up for a busy weekend of sport, with thousands of runners taking to the streets for the OUTsurance Gun Run while a new local football rivalry gets its first chapter at Athlone Stadium.
The OUTsurance Gun Run returns on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, with around 21,000 participants expected across its various races.
Saturday's programme includes a 17km Trail Run, 10km Road Run, 5km Fun Run and 5km Pet Walk, while the 21.1km half marathon takes place on Sunday.
The races will take runners through parts of the Atlantic Seaboard and Table Mountain, with the half marathon passing through Green Point, De Waterkant, Sea Point, Camps Bay and Clifton.
Expect traffic disruptions
If you're driving around the Atlantic Seaboard this weekend, plan. Saturday's races start between 6.30am and 8.30am, with traffic disruptions expected in Green Point, Mouille Point and Sea Point.
On Sunday, road closures will affect parts of Green Point, Sea Point and Camps Bay, including Somerset Road, Beach Road, Kloof Road and Victoria Road.
A new Cape Town derby
Football fans have their own big fixture to look forward to on Sunday, when newly promoted Hope FC hosts Cape Town City FC at Athlone Stadium.
The match marks the first-ever derby between the two sides and forms part of the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Kick-off is at 3pm, with gates opening at 1pm. Tickets cost R40 and are available via Webtickets.
So whether you're lacing up for the Gun Run or heading to Athlone for some football, Cape Town has a packed sporting weekend ahead.
