Cape Town has plenty happening this weekend, from family-friendly school holiday activities and a new farmers' market to ballet, live creative showcases and a classic car festival. Here are seven things to do from Friday, October 2 to Sunday, October 4.

Mommy & Me Expo

Venue: D’Aria Wine Estate, Durbanville

Date: Saturday, October 3 – Sunday, October 4

Time: 9am to 3pm

Tickets: R100

Expecting parents and families with young children can browse more than 60 exhibitors at the Mommy & Me Expo. The two-day event brings together baby brands, pregnancy essentials, clothing, products and services, with expo specials available from participating exhibitors. 

Blouberg Farmers Market

Venue: Sunningdale Sports Complex, Blouberg

Date: Saturday, October 3

Time: from 9am

A new farmers market will launch in Blouberg this weekend, bringing together local producers, makers and small businesses. Browse fresh produce, baked goods, handmade products, garden and home goods, and local food while supporting independent traders.

Hermanus Whale Festival

Venue: Various venues, Hermanus

Date: Friday, October 2 – Sunday, October 4

Head to Hermanus for the annual Whale Festival, celebrating the return of southern right whales to the Cape Whale Coast. The weekend combines whale watching with live music, food, markets, arts and crafts, conservation activities and family entertainment.

Space Rescue at Liberty Promenade

Venue: Liberty Promenade Food District, Mitchells Plain

Date: Until Sunday, October 4

Time: 11.30am to 4.30pm

Tickets: R20 per person

Young explorers can take part in an immersive space-themed adventure during the school holidays. Space Rescue: Your Mission Awaits challenges teams to search for clues, crack codes, collect Energy Stars and find Captain Nova before completing their mission.

ELYSIUM at The Baxter

Venue: The Baxter, Rondebosch

Cape Ballet Africa opens its spring season with ELYSIUM, a quadruple bill featuring works by choreographers George Balanchine, Nacho Duato, Kirsten Tindall and Joshua Reid. The production brings contrasting choreography, music and styles to the stage.

Framed Sessions

Venue: The Pink Room @ Gorgeous George Hotel

Date: Saturday, October 3

Photography, live music, painting and projection come together at Framed Sessions, a multidisciplinary showcase featuring emerging Cape Town creatives. The event opens with a photography exhibition documenting the city’s live music scene, followed by an improvised collaboration between musicians, painters, sketch artists and a projectionist.

Franschhoek Classic Car Festival

Venue: Huguenot Monument, Franschhoek

Date: Saturday, October 3 to Sunday, October 4

Tickets: R250 p.p. or R2250 for a package of 10 tickets.

Classic car enthusiasts can make the trip to Franschhoek for a weekend celebrating motoring history. The festival includes the Forty of the Finest display of pre-1995 vehicles, along with Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen anniversary displays, Land Rover, sports cars, and an F1 anniversary display.
