With SA National Parks Week underway, locals can still enjoy free day access to five parks in the Cape Region. The offer runs until Sunday, September 13, while West Coast National Park’s free-access period ends on Friday, September 11.
The offer covers day entry only, so accommodation, guided activities, game drives and other paid experiences are not included. Visitors should bring a valid South African ID, while children must also have valid identification.
From a quick nature escape in Cape Town to a scenic road trip or wildlife-filled day out, here are five parks worth visiting this week.
Table Mountain National Park
You don't have to leave Cape Town to take advantage of the offer. Explore hiking trails, forests, beaches and scenic viewpoints across the park.
Boulders Penguin Colony and the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway are excluded.
West Coast National Park
Spring is the perfect time to visit, with wildflowers adding colour to the landscape. Pack a picnic and explore the lagoon, coastal scenery and wildlife.
Free access ends on Friday.
Agulhas National Park
Make a road trip of it and head to the southernmost tip of Africa. Expect dramatic coastline, beaches, and plenty of space to enjoy the great outdoors.
Bontebok National Park
Just outside Swellendam, this is a good option for a quieter day in nature. Look out for bontebok, explore the landscape and spend some time alongside the Breede River.
Tankwa Karoo National Park
For something completely different, head into the Karoo. Think vast landscapes, scenic drives, spectacular sunsets and some of the country's best stargazing.
